THE STEPS

THE STEPS TO GET MARRIED

All that legal stuff

The best first step is to book one of 'the Celebrants'

the below 'steps' are the basic requirements, some couples may need further paperwork completed

The Notice of Intended Marriage

This is the first legal step to getting married. It MUST be completed at least one calendar month before the ceremony, but no-more that 18 months prior. This is usually completed by us and the signed with us via Zoom, occasionally in person for the non-computer savvy.

For this we need to get some details from you including birth/family details. We also need to sight some ID..  2 out of 3 of Birth Certificate, Passport and Driver Licence/Proof of Age. If you have been married before, we will need to sight your divorce certificate.

There are a small number of exceptions to the time requirement of 'one calendar month'. We are happy to apply for a 'shortening of time' if required and eligible so you can be married in less than a month.

Pre-Ceremony Preparation & Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage

The 'declaration of no legal impediment to marriage' is the second legal document that needs to be completed in order to meet the requirements to have your marriage legally solemnised. In simple language, its just saying that you don't know of any reason you can't get married.

It must be signed by the couple and be witnessed by their celebrant before the ceremony begins.

In the week before your ceremony, we confirm your script, and with some packages we can do a rehearsal if needed.

The Ceremony

At your ceremony, your celebrant must say a paragraph called the Monitum, and the couple must say a legally required sentence "I ask everyone here to witness that I, (full name), take you (full name), as my lawfully wedded (husband/wife/partner)" ......

Then you sign your marriage certificate along with 2 witnesses and your celebrant. From this moment you are married and live happily ever after.

On the day you receive your offical commemorative certificate.

We can also order your legal certificate from BDM if your want.
